For the fourth time, we find ourselves at the beginning of another volume of Sūdō Journal. There was never a plan for anything after volume three—from here we all
find ourselves in strange new territory.

Nevertheless, we are overjoyed to introduce a new volume of Sūdō Journal for public dissemination. As the world licks its wounds in preparation for the next “unprecedented” event, we hope that the stories, essays and artworks in this volume will help you hold onto your sense of self. In the end, there is nothing new under the sun. May we find solace in tradition, for tradition is all there is to be found. Light a candle for Sūdō Journal, will you?

Our fourth volume can be found either here, or by selecting “Latest Issue” on the Sūdō Journal website. With the theme of “Touch Wood,” this volume of stories, essays and poems embraces the spirit of spring, to be read while wondering what “spring” means in northern Queensland, waiting for the next catastrophic flood, or recovering from you third bout of COVID-19. We hope you enjoy this collection as much as we have enjoyed putting it together.

I would also like to, for the last time as editor, acknowledge the unpaid, voluntary contributions of all those associated with this volume, most of whom did so while balancing all the challenges associated with PhD candidature. I would particularly like to thank Rebekah Lisciandro, Tianna Killoran, Nicole Crowe, James Milton, Tenille McDermott and Angela Hughes. for their editorial support. I would also like to express my appreciation to all the contributors whose work appears in this volume. Thank you for your support and for entrusting us with the responsibility of unleashing your creations on the world.
